Lockwood MT5+ Patent Update

We are pleased to announce that ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Australia is preparing to update the patent for the Lockwood MT5+ keying platform.

 With the MT5+ patent scheduled to expire in 2025, ASSA ABLOY is committed to protecting every MT5+ system against unauthorised key duplication well into the future. The newly patented platform, MTL800, is scheduled for official launch in 2023.

To assist with the launch, ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Australia will begin supplying MTL800 ready key blanks once MT5+ key blank stock has been exhausted, and MT5+ key blanks will no longer be available for order. MTL800 key will be backwards compatible with MT5+ systems. Existing MT5+ dealers and end users can continue working and using their respective MT5+ systems with MTL800 compatible keys without any impact on normal handling or function.

In terms of the physical changes to the key, the unique alpha spring present in the MT5+ keys will be split into two springs, in addition to the removal of ‘MT5’ on the key head.

Following the official launch of MTL800, existing MT5+ systems can be easily migrated to MTL800, extending the platform’s patent until 2039. More details to follow closer to the launch of MTL800.
